Umbral is operated by Henry Doce. In these terms, "Umbral," "we," and "us" refer to Henry Doce and the Umbral app and website. By using the Umbral app or website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

What Umbral is (and is not)

Umbral provides breathing, grounding, and daily practice tools for people who experience sleep paralysis. It offers guided sessions with binaural audio, a voice journal, and progress tracking to support your daily practice.

Umbral is not a medical service. It does not provide medical, mental health, psychological, or therapeutic services. It does not diagnose any condition. It does not promise or guarantee that it will prevent or cure sleep paralysis or any other condition.

The content in Umbral is educational and practical, informed by neuroscience research and grounding practices drawn from multiple traditions. It is not a substitute for medical care or mental health treatment. If you are experiencing distress, please seek support from a qualified professional.

Binaural audio safety

Umbral sessions use binaural audio, which requires stereo headphones. Keep volume at a comfortable, moderate level. Do not use Umbral while driving or operating machinery. If you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder, consult your doctor before using binaural audio.

Using Umbral

Umbral is for your personal, non-commercial use. You agree to use the app and website in a way that is lawful and respectful. You may not:

Intellectual property

All content, audio, design, code, and branding in Umbral are owned by Umbral or its licensors. You may not copy, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the app or website without written permission.

Your content

Journal entries, voice recordings, and other content you create in the app belong to you. This content is stored on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, it syncs to your personal iCloud account through Apple. This sync is between you and Apple. We have no server, no access to your data, and make no claims to it.

Subscriptions

Umbral may offer paid subscriptions through Apple's App Store in the future. When subscriptions become available, this section will be updated with details about pricing, billing, cancellation, and refund policies. All subscription purchases will be processed through Apple and subject to Apple's terms.

Availability

We aim to keep Umbral available and working well, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time. We will try to communicate significant changes in advance when possible.

Limitation of liability

Umbral is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Umbral shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app or website.

Our total liability for any claim related to the app or website is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $50, whichever is greater.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Henry Doce and Umbral from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your violation of these terms or your use of the app or website.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of California.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top. Continued use of Umbral after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
